Learn to Dance in a Day - Balboa Swing Workshop

Learn to Dance in a Day - Balboa Swing Workshop

from 45.00

This workshop is an introduction to the Balboa Swing partner dance from the very beginning! We'll be introducing you to basic principals of connection, the core rhythms and some basic shapes. This is designed to get you up on the social dance floor as soon as possible!

The Balboa originated in Southern California during the 1920s and enjoyed huge popularity during the 1930s and 1940s. It is danced to swing era dance music, which included big-band and small-combo swing from artists such as Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Chick Webb, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and gypsy swing artists like Django Reinhardt. Tempos from 150 to 300+ beats per minute are possible, making it a very versatile dance for the social dance floor.

Teachers Rob & Emma have a particular passion for Balboa and have been sharing their accumulated knowledge of the dance in weekly classes for many years. They are multiple winners of the two biggest national Balboa competitions and you can see them out at social dances most weekends.

You'll be starting from the very beginning, so no prior partner dance knowledge is required.

No partner is required, you'll be rotating partners in class. There will be short refreshment breaks and it's always a good idea to bring a drink bottle and a note book to dance classes. Shoes with low friction soles are preferable. The floor is sprung timber with medium grip. The room is well air-conditioned.
